This plaque is infront of the Universadade de Direitos de Sao Francisco in downtown Sao Paulo. The simple plaque, which is waring with time is on the ground and it reads:
"A todos os campanheiros que nos últimos 13 anos ao se luta por dereitos humanos. Ouviram sua voz violentamente calada da sua vida sacrificada."
"To all comrades that in the last 13 years as they struggle for human rights. Violently silenced her voice heard in your life sacrificed."
Brazil suffered a coup d'etate in the 1960s that lasted until the 1980s. During the 20 years of military dictatorship many people who against the dictatorship were tortured. It was a time wheen you had to watch what you said for fear of the secret police and people were taken off the street and tortued using devices like the "Pau de arara"
The protests would lead to a formal uprising known as "Direitas Ja" that eventually lead to democracy in Brazil.
