Text from the the towns web page on this mural:
"In the pioneering days, businessmen were often paid with goods rather than money for services rendered. F.W. Lundy (with pipe), Stony Plain’s first lawyer, was no exception, as portrayed in the mural. Mr. Lundy managed his profession while being actively involved in the community. He was the town’s first secretary-treasurer (1909- 1929) and first elected MLA (1917-1921)."
When selected to paint a mural in Stony Plain Windi Scott had this to say:
“I was astounded to be chosen,” says Scott, “Up until Goods in Kind I was really just an in-home artist living in Stony Plain.” The mural depicts the town’s first lawyer, F. W. Lundy. “At first I drew a big blank. All I could think of was a guy in a suit sitting behind a desk. Then someone mentioned to me that people often paid in merchandise, whatever they could grow or knit or bake, instead of cash. That gave me an image right there. I thought of a family coming in to pay their legal fees with bread, eggs, and honey.” See: (
