To commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the attacks on the United States on September 11, 2001, this memorial was constructed and dedicated, ten years to the date. There were scores of memorials dedicated that day in New Jersey. The list can be found HERE.

The sundial is permanently mounted on top of and flush with a huge boulder (possible granite), roughly hewn, surrounded by Delaware River Jack, 3 inch stone on the bottom, and that, surrounded by brick pavers and landscaping throughout and one artistic bench, tiled on top. The dial is octagonal, made of bronze, very ornate and very detailed. There is a very simple plaque attached to a square piece of granite on the ground in front of the gigantic boulder which reads:

September 11, 2001
Remember, Reflect, Respond

One of our local rags wrote the following: An artistic memorial was dedicated Sunday at Freedom Park as tribute was paid to victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and emergency workers who responded to calls for help....A mosaic bench created for the township’s 9/11 memorial site in Freedom Park was dedicated. Artists Diane Emerson and Suzanne Morgan, both Medford residents, depict a blue sky, birch trees and pansies that represent renewal and loss, they said....The bench joins a sundial and plaque at the 9/11 memorial site and other nearby monuments dedicated to military veterans.
