Gunnison valley encompasses much of the southwest area of Sanpete County in central Utah. The City of Gunnison was established in 1862, which resulted from the resettlement and merging of two earlier communities, each built up in 1859 along the lower Sanpitch River in upper Gunnison Valley.
The sign is in the northeast corner of the City Park. The park is located between 200 North and 300 North along the west side of Main Street. 300 North is the first street you come to when traveling south into town along Highway 28 from Nephi.
The sign itself, is carved from a solid piece of wood and is displayed on a base of carved rock, with a pitched roof over the top of the sign. Decorative concrete surrounds the sign for easy access.
