The Bell from the first Iron Clad Ship in the U.S. Navy (that's right folks there was one before the Civil War). The ship served as a deterrent to the Canadians after the war of 1812 was over. During the Civil War the ships name was changed to the USS Wolverine and it was used to transport soldiers across the lake so they could catch a train to the war zone.
The bell that has no markings hangs today in the Erie Maritime Museum along with the bow of the ship. The display of items from the ship can be found on the second floor and there is an $8 charge for adults to get in but once there you will see many interesting displays and if the Flagship Niagara is at home you will even get a tour of it.
