Historically the Fox River was a well traveled waterway for both commercial and recreational traffic. Starting in the mid 1800's and ending in the 1980s the Fox River throughout the Fox Valley was navigated by a system of locks and bridges. Before the days of automation and when traffic ran 24/7 this house was home to the varies lock keepers who was charged with making sure the locks operated for the water traffic. Recently this has whole system has seen a resurrection and started to be restored so it can be used by recreational traffic once again.
