This is now Wombwell Public Library run by Barnsley Metropilitan Borough Council since 1978. It open to the public and has free internet access. At the rear is a large free public car park,with disabled access to the library from this area.

Inscription on the date stone reads-
"WOMBWELL FREE LIBRARY
Presented by
ANDREW CARNEGIE Esq.
To the Township of Wombwell
in the year 1905.
this stone was laid by
THE REVEREND GEORGE HADFIELD
Chairman of the Education Committee
and a late member of the Urban District Council
on the 29th Day of June 1905.

Chairman of the Library Committe."

At the time of opening of the library, Wombwell was under control of the Wombwell Urban District Council, in the West Riding County Council area. WRCC lasted from 1889 until 1974, at which time South Yorkshire County was formed. SYCC lasted 1974 until 1986. South Yorkshire was formed with Borough Councils. Wombwell including the library the came under the control of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council.
