Northfield Drive-In - Hinsdale, NH - Drive-In Movie Theaters on Waymarking.com

The Northfield Drive-In opened for business in August of 1948. The original owner was a man named Carl Neilman who was a pioneer in the post World War II drive in boom. At one time he owned more than 10 drive in theaters throughout New England. Northfield Drive-In is the last of Carl Neilman's theaters still in operation and one of of fewer than 20 drive in theaters remaining in New England.

The original screen was destroyed by a hurricane in 1951. The rebuilt screen is 80' by 54' and is still used today. In 1967 the Shakour family purchased the Northfield Drive-In and operate it to this day. The family had previously purchased the nearby Keene Drive-In, which opened in 1953.

The Northfield Drive-In is is probably unique in that it straddles two states. The driveway and box office is in New Hampshire and the screen is in Massachusetts. Scenes from the film The Cider House Rules having were shot here on Halloween day in 1998.
