This area has had high water markers since the 1800s as Montgomery was a center for commerce on the Alabama River.

These markers are located in Riverfront Park in Montgomery, Alabama. They can be found close to where the Harriett II Riverboat is normally docked. The measurement is in feet. Flooding is not as frequent since there are dams upstream, but it still happens.

The record flood level happened on February 26, 1961, when the river rose to a level of 58 feet, 1 inch, which was 23 feet, 1 inch, over the flood stage.
