This area was acquired by the National Trust in February 2001 and parts are a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). To the east is Sharpenhoe Clappers and to the west the Sundon Hills. The Moleskin and Markham Hills consist of chalk grassland with scrub and beech woodland.
Also nearby are the Dunstable Downs and Whipsnade Downs.
