During its 18-month history the Pony Express delivered mail between St. Joseph, MO and Sacramento CA. The mail was then put on a riverboat for delivery to San Francisco. When there was no boat, or the rider missed the boat, the journey had to continue overland, and so through Vacaville. This mural is mounted above a downtown building on the spot depicted in the mural.
