There has been a church here since Norman times, the tower here is of Norman design and has been re-built several times over the centuries. In 1874 the tower, which was is need of serious repair was not re-built, however, the architect decided to build around the original stonework, leaving them intact. The design was more Victorian than the old tower. I would expect these Gargoyles to originate from this re-build.
