At the major intersection of "downtown" Gatlinburg, TN, and in front of the Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies, three bear statues stand along the creek bed. One is of the mother bear and the other two are of the yearling cubs. However, since the statues are essentially walled off by retaining walls of the creek and various railings along the major road ways, there was no safe and practical way to get close enough to the satues to see who the sculptur was or find any dates of founding. The statues are easiest seen from the railing near the creek at the entrance into the Ripley's Aquarium, but they can also be seen from River Road or from Parkway (Hwy 441). The bear statues are in the creek where the three roadways of Parkway, River Road and Greystone Heights Rd. come together in Gatlinburg, TN. There are bear statues all around Gatlinburg, but these of the mother bear and cubs were the best quality and the most public.
