Created in 1950 by an unknown artist, the base and the monument are in granite while the portrait of Philemon Wright is in bronze.

Philemon Wright (1760–1839) and his family were the original settlers in this region in 1800. He founded Wright’s Town— the former city of Hull, which is now part of Gatineau — and started the timber industry. The people of Hull erected this bronze portrait of Wright on the 150th anniversary of his arrival.

The location is also a Canadian National Historic Site and the relevant plaque on the monument reads as follows:

Philemon Wright (1760–1839) and his family were the original settlers in this region in 1800. He founded Wright’s Town— the former city of Hull, which is now part of Gatineau — and started the timber ndustry. The people of Hull erected this bronze portrait of Wright on the 150th anniversary of his arrival.
