Additional Research:
All other sources and headstones in the plot suggest the correct spelling of the surname was SANFORD, including the headstone of two children which includes the full name as "CHARLES SANFORD"
Charles SANFORD b. 18 Mar 1811, son of John SANFORD b. 1 Apr 1776 and Waity PALMETER d. May 1813. He married Rebecca Ann SANFORD b. 2 Jul 1814. There are two other headstones which are dedicated to three of their children nearby and a third headstone dedicated to Rebecca Ann SANFORD's parents, Benjamin Jr. SANFORD and Freedom STRONG. John SANFORD and Benjamin Jr. SANFORD are sons of Benjamin Sr. SANFORD b. 9 Jul 1733, Newport Rhode Island and Amelia BENTLEY.
Benjamin Jr. SANFORD married on 25 Mar 1790 in Coventry, Tolland, CT to Freedom STRONG, b. 16 Jul 1766 daughter of Stephen STRONG and Elizabeth BARSTOW. The family connection to Connecticut may provide the link to the selection of a zinc headstone for Charles SANFORD.
