“After carving the mountains and valleys that you see from here, a once powerful glacier melted and retreated, leaving clues of its existence -- scattered ponds, ground moraines, and isolated boulders.
Born during the glacier’s retreat, this kettle pond is now home to many plants and animals. Ground moraines are also present -- the low hills located beyond the kettle pond.
Watch for similar signs of former glaciers as you travel through northern Yellowstone. As geologists tell time, the last glacier retreated from here very recently. By 12,000 years ago it had completely vanished.”
