Long Description:
This marker is dedicated to the 15th Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. It marks the unit's position at 11:00 a.m. on September 20, 1863. The 15th Wisconsin was popularly known as the "Scandinavian Regiment".

Short Significance Description:

Marker contributes to national significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans & related groups to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description

A simple rectangular slab of granite measuring 1'6" x 1' x 3'. The slanted tops carries a raised letter inscription. Marks unit's position at 11:00 a.m. on September 20, 1863.



Long Physical Description

Monument located within the Chickamauga Battlefield along the edge of Brotherton Field, map site #190.
