The Jubilee Gates are the southern barrier between Inner Circle, at York Bridge, and Queen Mary's Gardens. The gates are to commemorate the silver jubilee of King George V on 6th May 1935.
The gates provide three entrances. The east and west gates are for pedestrian access and the centre gate is for vehicular access. The only vehicles permitted through the gates are those servicing the gardens so the centre gate is chained closed. At the extremities of the set of gates are two Portland stone pillars that support the ends of the gates. Metal posts, that are decorated, support the inner sides of the gates.
The gates are generally painted black with the intricate ironwork picked out in gold. Most of the intricate work is on the spans over the tops of the gates. The centre piece, over the centre gate, is a crown with "GR" beneath it and beneath that is the date "6th May 1935". All this is in gold. The leaf work around the centre piece is also in gold.
Beyond the gates is a long straight walk to the Triton fountain that is one of the many features of the gardens.
