Elle doit son nom à Étienne Marcel, prévôt des marchands de Paris et homme politique français (1315-1358), qui joua un rôle considérable aux États généraux de 1355 et 1357.
La station est inaugurée en 1908. A proximité: l'église Saint-Eustache et la tour Jean-sans-Peur.

The station is situated in the intersection of the street "Etienne Marcel" and of the street "de Turbigo".
It owes its name to Étienne Marcel, provost of the traders of Paris and the French politician (1315-1358), who played a considerable role to the general States of 1355 and 1357.
The station is inaugurated in 1908. Near: the church Saint-Eustache and the tower Jean-sans-Peur.
