At each of the eight angles of the octagonal Place de la Concorde are small buildings which have a sculpted representation of a major French city above it. This one, represents the city of Lille. It depicts a young woman seated casually with her legs crossed and wearing a long gown and a crown that is designed to resemble a fort. She holds a sword, again casually over her right shoulder. Her feet rests on a cannon as she looks straight ahead.
Wikipedia (
visit link) informs us that the artist is James Pradier who also did the sculpture for the city of Strasbourg.
