George Powell, born in South Carloina, was a pioneer settler of Bount County, Alabama. He made the original survey of Blount County and wrote a history of the county in 1855. He is buried in Nectar Cemetery across the road from the marker. The marker was placed by the Junior Blount County Historical Society.
