Minhocas (Earthworms)is a funny sculture placed in the middle of a Roundabout in Albufeira, Portugal.
It´s a work of the Portuguese artists António Cavaco and Armando Reis.
The sculpture represents two Earthworms, each on coming from one side of the roundabout, coming in and out of the ground and meeting at the center. The 2 figures seem to be part of a comic book. They have vivid red and green colors, antenas and glasses that gave them a funny look.
There´s been some controversy about this kind of sculptures and the fact that lately many City halls in Portugal are placing sculptures in the roundabouts where they are normally unacessible instead of in parks and gardens where people can properly enjoy them. Some criticize also the subject claiming that this kind of subject can´t be considered public art.
Personally i find it funny and entertaining to break driving monotony.
