Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands has a series of concentric half-circles of canals with their ends emerging at the IJ bay to the north east. The outer rings of canals were built as a result of deliberate planning in the 17th Century due to expansion of the city.
As a result the city has many bridges to allow, vehicles, pedestrians and cycles to cross the canals.
This bridge is in the heart of the Spiegelkwartier, the famous fine art and antiques area.
It has 3 arches and like many of the buildings, and other bridges it is constructed from very small bricks. This method of building gives Amsterdam a very distinctive style of architecture.
