(PT) O Aqueduto dos Pegões, foi construído com a finalidade de abastecer de água o Convento de Cristo em Tomar e, tem cerca 6 km de extensão.
A sua construção foi iniciada em 1593, no reinado de Filipe I de Portugal (Filipe II de Espanha), sob a direcção de Filipe Terzio (arquitecto-mor do reino) e, foi concluída em 1614 por Pedro Fernando de Torres.
O aqueduto é constituído na totalidade por 180 arcos.
Na sua parte mais elevada tem 58 arcos de volta inteira, sobre 16 arcos ogivais apoiados em pilares.
A sua altura máxima é de 30 metros.
Nos extremos apresenta casas abobadadas, que têm no centro uma larga pia destinada à decantação da água.
O aqueduto reúne e transporta a água de quatro nascentes.
Inicia o seu percurso perto de Carregueiros e, termina na Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes em Tomar.
Em 1617 foi prolongado até ao Convento de Cristo chegando aos lavabos dos dormitórios.
Em 1619 chegou ao Claustro de D. João III.
O aqueduto foi classificado Monumento Nacional em 1910.

(ENG) The Pegões Aqueduct, was built with the purpose to supply water for the Convent of Christ in Tomar, and has 6 km (3.72 miles) of length.
The construction was initiated in 1593, in the reign of Filipe I of Portugal (Filipe II of Spain), under the direction of Filipe Terzio (architect-mor of the kingdom) and it was concluded in 1614 by Pedro Fernando de Torres.
The aqueduct is constituted by 180 arcs.
In the most elevated area has 58 entire arcs, over 16 ogival arcs supported by pillars.
The maximum height is 30 meters (98 feet).
In the extremities has vaulted houses, which one have in the center a square sink destined to the decantation of the water.
The aqueduct congregates and carries the water from four springs.
It initiates his journey near Carregueiros and, finishes in the National Wood of the Seven Hills (Mata Nacional dos Sete Montes) in Tomar.
In 1617 it was prolonged up to the Christ Convent arriving to the washrooms of the dormitories.
In 1619 arrived to the Cloister of D. João III.
The aqueduct was classified as a National Monument in 1910.
