Monument describes the January 5, 1957 launch by the Austin (Mn) Rocket Society of a model rocket with a live mouse as passenger. The launch was given international attention and coverage including ABC's David Brinkley.
The rocket achieved an altitude of 1642 feet, at 221 miles per hour.
The Monument is located in Mower County, MN west of Brownsdale at the triangular intersection of County Highway 2, and 580th Avenue.
