Mount Tamalpais has three summits, the West, Middle, and East Peaks. The west peak was the highest point (at 2600 feet) until it was leveled to 2574 feet to build a weather station. The middle peak is covered with communication towers and antennae. These two peaks are fenced off and inaccessible to the public. The east peak (noted as 2572 by Wikipedia) is the highest accessible point and has the best views of the skyline of San Francisco.

The majority of Mt. Tam is primarily located in protected public lands, such as Mt. Tamalpais State Park, Muir Woods National Monument, and the Mount Tamalpais Watershed.
