Every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving at 11 am, Springfield has its Parade of the Big Balloons. There are floats and marching bands; but the signature feature of the parade are the giant helium filled balloons. In 2011, there were eight such balloons floating down Main Street from Lyman Street, in the downtown business district, to Locust Street in the South End.
In 2011, the giant helium filled balloons were, in order of appearance:
Cat in the Hat
American Flag
Scooby Doo
Nutcraker
Snowflake Ornament
Paddington Bear
Snowman Ornament
Rudolph
Santa - riding a Springfield Firetruck arrives at the end.
