In Boston's Government Center section, there is, over an entrance to a Starbucks Coffee store, is a brass kettle that often has a little steam coming out of the spout. This kettle has been a known fixture in this area long before the Starbucks store came into Boston.
The kettle is currently over the corner entrance to a Starbucks Coffee store. But, Starbucks was not the original owner. That was the Oriental Tea Company, and the store location was about 50 ft down Court Street - toward the Old State House. When the kettle was first installed, the tea company held a contest for people to guess the kettle's capacity. The winner received a chest of tea. The winning amount is printed on the side of the kettle: 227 gallons, 2 quarts, 1 pint and 3 gills. The blog link below has more description of the contest.
The kettle is off Court Street about 100 feet from the intersection with Cambridge Street and Tremont Street. You can easily see the kettle from many points, including the Government Center MBTA subway station, Court Street, and much of City Hall Plaza.
Parking - well, good luck. Boston is just not a good city to park in, but there is parking available along the street and a parking garage a couple blocks away.
