OLD MILL PARK
Dedicated to the memory of
Albrecht Pagenstecher
Pioneer in the wood pulp industry
in the United States
Given to the town of Luzerne*
by his daughter
Helene Pagenstecher Smidt
1940 |
The watercourse that flows through the park is the outlet from Lake Luzerne, flowing less than half a mile to join the Hudson River (still looking for a name). At the top, near Lake Road, is the remains of the mill pond dam, which would have provided water power for the mill.
*The town was set off from the town of Queensbury in 1792 as the Town of Fairfield. The name was changed to Luzerne in 1808, and to Lake Luzerne in 1963.
