This theatre was actually called the third stage up until about 2000. The name was changed to honour Tom Patterson who was the driving force behind the creation of the Stratford Festival. He also managed to attract Tyrone Guthrie and Alec Guiness to start off the first season which secured Stratford Ontario's place in the theatrical world. This theatre was originally used as the training stage for new members of the ensemble but is now used for main productions starring the top actors at the Festival.
