On the sidewalk at the corner of Lafayette and Russ Streets in front of the Hartford Superior Court stands a 12' by 10' by 6' aluminum abstract sculpture called the Guardian, created by Bill Barrett. The sculptured was installed March 18, 1986.

A abstract sculpture stands on three legs, one straight, one bent and one larger one curved on the bottom. When viewed at a certain angle the sculpture tales on a human-like form with a head, a right arm bent at the elbow with hand over the breast and an arm holding a shield. Finally a piece resembling a tail.
