The western half of Agawam, population 28,616, is known as Feeding Hills. About half the people in Agawam live in Feeding Hills. English settlers living to the eastern part of present day Agawam, during the time it was a district of Springfield, brought their cattle to pastures just below the hills that rise to the west - hence the feeding hills.
An historic display inside the post office indicates there has been a post office in Feeding Hills since at least 1808. That's well before the invention of the postage stamp in 1840. The present building was constructed in 1965.
