Yankton Dakota Sioux Tribe Treaty of 1858 with the United States. This monument is remote up on a ridge along the banks of the Missouri River near the ghost town of Greenwood, SD. The view from here is a wonderful study of the Missouri in its natural state nearly as it was when Lewis & Clark floated by over 200 years ago. The monument and plague describe the treaty and the local Native Americans that traveled to Washington, DC to make peace with the white man. Be sure to take a drive along the river for a ways for a scenic treat.
