The Granby Soldier's Monument is a 21' high brownstone figure of a 7' high Union soldier standing on a 14' by 6' by 7.5' tapered and multi-tiered base that sits on a pedestal. The monument was sculpted by Carl H. Conrads. George Keller was the architect and the firm of James G. Batterson was the contractor. The monument was dedicated on July 4, 1868.
A Union soldier with a moustache and beard stands looking downward. He is wearing a visored cap, belted jacket and long overcoat which is worn over the shoulders. He is holding a rifle vertically to his left side with both hands on the barrel, right over left. The rifle butt rest near his left foot. The base is inscribed on each side.
The front pedestal is inscribed:
They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more.
Above the pedestal the is inscribed:
