This monument to the 18th Ohio Infantry Regiment, is located on the west side Layfette Rd. in the wooded section between Lafayette Rd. and Vittetoe-Chickamauga Rd in the Chickamauga NBP.

This monument is dedicated to the 18th Ohio Volunteer Infantry (or 18th OVI), is in recognition of their service during the Battle of Chickamauga, fought September 19–20, 1863. It marks their position at 10:00 A.M. on Sept. 20, 1863 during the battle.

Short Significance Description:

Marker contributes to nat'l significance of park under NR Criterion A because it represents the national movement among veterans & related groups to commemorate Civil War battlefields. This was the first U.S. national military park.

Short Physical Description

A 1'6" x 1'6" x 3' high granite obelisk with a raised letter inscription. Marks regiment's position west of Kelly Field on September 20, 1863, at 10:00 a.m.
