This museum was opened in October 1995 by the owners and successors of the founders of the jam making factory on this site. It is accesssible through the restaurant at no charge and gives an insight to the history of the surrounding area and in particular the manufacture of conserves. Conserves have been made here since 1885 but the Wilkin family have farmed the land around here for nearly three hundred years.
At first the company was called the Britannia Fruit Preserving Company but his was changed in 1905 to ‘Wilkin & Sons Limited’ in order to avoid confusion with other companies of this name. The range of products has expanded over the years and now includes Conserves, Marmalades, Jellies, Savouries, Honey, Lemon Curd, Teas, Puddings, Collectables, and Gift Packs.
