Smithsonian Art Inventory Description: "A figure of Hank Williams, dressed in a shirt, tie, sportcoat, pants, cowboy boots and cowboy hat, stands holding a guitar with both hands. The figure is placed atop an inscribed base that is decorated on the front sides with musical note designs."
This statue of Hank Williams is located across the street from the City Hall Auditorium where the funeral service for Hank Williams was held on January 4, 1953. In 1991, Hank Williams, Jr., commissioned Texas sculptors Doug and Sandra McDonald to create the life-sized statue of his father that now faces the auditorium. It is located in Lister Hill Plaza on North Perry Street.
Hank Williams was born on September 17, 1923 and died on January 1, 1953. He is generally regarded as one of the most important country music artists of his time. He recorded many number one country hits during his short life and was one of the three first inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
