The name was changed in 1946 to Patton Park to honour George Cross recipient John MacMillan Stevenson Patton. Finally in 1960 it was renamed Sam Lawrence Park for Sam Lawrence, a Hamilton MPP and Mayor.
The park has many features including a Tulip Garden, a Rock Garden, several plaques and signs referencing the escarpments ancient history, benches, picnic tables and pavillion. There is also a connecting path to the Bruce Trail.
