James Knox Taylor, designer and architect of the Bar Harbor Post Office was the Supervising Architect of the Dept of Treasury from 1897 to 1912.

The Post Office is a classical revival building which has strong greek influences. It is a granite like building with a high level of ornate detail. Its centered entranceway is flanked by two windows on each side. Across the doorway are the words United States Post Office in gold.
