The Basilica Sainte-Marie-Madeleine is a former Benedictine monastery established at Vezelay in Burgundy. Contruction of the present church began in 1096 to properly honor the sacred relics of St. Mary Magdalen and was dedicated in 1104 by Paschal II.

The basilica is one of the outstanding masterpieces of Burgundian Romanesque art and architecture and was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1979. Currently it is an important place of pilgrimage on the route to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
