These gates are at the entrance to St. James Cemetery which was opened in 1844 and is still in operation today. There is a set of gates for vehicles to pass through and to the right of these gates is a smaller single gate for pedestrian traffic. The gates, which allow the vehicular traffic to enter, are tallest where they meet when closed and they open out from the centre to stand at each side of the entranceway. The pedestrian gate, to the side, is smaller and narrower in scale but still has the same patterns worked into it as the road gates. These gates match the tall wrought iron fence that encloses this cemetery although the fence is much more basic in design.

The gates are at the entrance to St. James Cemetery on Parliament Street. It is on the east side of Parliament Street, south of Bloor Street, north of Wellesley Street East.
