Six Corners is a densely populated working class neighborhood located in an older section of central Springfield. During the early days of World War II the residents erected a monument to honor those who answered the call in a small park. The monument is incised with two crossed American flags, a star and the initials U.S. are enclosed within a wreath and ribbon and is inscribed:
ERECTED IN HONOR
OF THE
BOYS OF SIX CORNERS
WHO ANSWERED
THEIR COUNTRY'S CALL
AND
GAVE THEIR SERVICES
FOR THE
GREAT CAUSE OF LIBERTY
IN WORLD WAR II
