Chonburi is a Thai province stretching along the Gulf of Thailand, ~100kms to the south east of Bangkok. It is an industrialised province, and one of the more populous, and of course it contains the wonderful resort city of Pattaya. The capital of the province is the city of Chonburi, which is found in the north of the province, on the coast. As you would expect, there is a train station for this city, however, it is small. Train travel in this region of Thailand is not that significant, it is vehicular traffic which moves people and goods in this region.
The station lies on the eastern edge of the city, in a quiet stretch of territory. The line is the Rayon to Bangkok. Not very busy, in fact, something of an anachronism, old and slow. When I visited there was a goods train in the station, but apart from this, and unlike the busy and boisterous stations in the north east of the Kingdom, there was not a person to be seen. A little sad.
In design, fairly standard though the station looks newer than others on the same line. An open building stretching along the track, a central ticket counter, and seats outside in the waiting area. As per usual there is a small bell used to announce an arriving and departing train, usually old and worn, this was brand, sparkling new. One slight departure from the norm, there was a series of historical plaques, in Thai, on the interior walls of the station. Waymark made at station entrance.
