This relief carving of the head of Charles Darwin was erected as part of the Millenium celebrations in memory of the fact that he took water treatments at a nearby spa in 1859 whilst his book was being prepared for publication. It stands at the entrance to the Darwin Gardens in Ilkley, UK.

The crater is located in the south eastern part of the moon and has a diameter of 120 km. The southern and northern rims of the crater have largely been destroyed when other nearby craters were subsequently formed.

There are a number of other small craters which are considered part of the same system. They are also named Darwin but identified with letters between A to H.
