The Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home has jointly served the Mahnomen area since 2005 but their roots go back much further. In 1955, Kenny and Marilynn Mattson purchased the Gearhart-Ruebke Funeral Home on East Madison Avenue here in Mahnomen and in 1959, they purchased the Snustad Funeral Home in Winger to established a branch chapel. In 1981, their son John Mattson joined in the operation of the funeral home. Six years later, when Kenny died, John and his wife Edie purchased the funeral home from Marilynn. John and Edie Mattson sold the funeral home to Tom Vertin in 1997, but they continued to be very active in the management of the firm. In 2000, this new building was constructed.

In 2000, Tim and Denise Anderson opened the Anderson Funeral Home here in Mahnomen. Over the next three years, as their business continued to grow, they completed an extensive addition to their building.

In November of 2005, the Mattson Funeral Home and the Anderson Funeral Home became the Anderson-Mattson Funeral Home, operating out of this North Main Street facility. Working together, they are able to continue a commitment of caring, professional service to the area - a caring tradition they are proud to continue.
