Apart from political activity, should be pointed out his outstanding literary labor, either as poet or as fiction writer. Among his many poems set to music include the "Trova do vento que passa", sung by Adriano Correia de Oliveira, Amalia Rodrigues, among many others. Recognized internationally, is the only Portuguese author included in the anthology Cent Poemes sur l'Exil, edited by the League of Human Rights in France (1993).
