Entitled "Le Centaure Nessus Enlevant Dejanire" meaning "The Centuar Nessus Abducting Deianeira", this 1892 marble piece is by Laurent-Honoré Marqueste (1848-1920). It depicts Nessus carrying Hercules wife, Deianeira, away on his back.

visit link) informs us that Nessus abducted Hercules wife and tried to rape her. Hercules shot a poisoned arrow and killed Nessus..but not before the centaur told Deianeira that Hercules would be true to her forever. Later, when she had doubts about Hercules, Deianeira spread the centaur's blood on Hercules shirt which eventually poisoned and killed him.
