The main 73 miles loop is also called the Inner Loop by locals and bicycle race fans. It's the route for the grueling annual Tour of the Gila race.
The Scenic Byway starts at state roads 152 and 35, N32 47.929 W107 55.941, near San Lorenzo and follow NM 35 northwest about 27 miles to the junction of NM 15, N33 02.460 W108 12.943. Here you can turn north to take a 20 miles side trip Gila Hot Springs or go west then south for 25 miles on NM 15 to Silver City. In Silver City turn east on US 180, N32 46.997 W108 15.953. It's almost 7 miles to Santa Clara, N32 46.778 W108 08.924, where you turn east on NM 152 for the final leg of just over 14 miles.
