This 9/11 memorial near the
Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade building contains a piece of steel from the World Trade Center. The piece of steel is surrounded in a spherical enclosure made from multiple circular tubes sharing the N-S axis. The sphere is mounted an a slightly oblique stone base. A plaque on the base reads:

by the Kings Mountain Community
in memory of the firefighters and
others whose loves were lost
on September 11, 2001.
