Mount Comfort Church
Near this site in Greene County in 1834 a Cumberland Presbyterian Church was formed in a brush arbor with 21 charter members. The first Cumberland Presbytery west of the Mississippi was organized in Pike County, Missouri in 1820. The first burying ground in Franklin Township was in this cemetery. By 1837 a log building was erected and was known as Kickapoo Church. In 1866 a frame building was dedicated and the name changed to Mount Comfort, for Mount Comfort, Kentucky, birthplace of many of the pioneer members. On May 10, 1925, the present church building was dedicated.
